On May 3, the Heydar Aliyev Center will host a concert by the recognized composer and performer Goran Bregović.At his first show in Baku, Goran Bregović accompanied by his orchestra is to present the tunes he had composed for famous movies along with other compositions enjoying a great deal of international popularity.The concert program featuring a broad variety of rhythms and tunes includes compositions like Kalashnikov, Bella Ciao, Maki Maki, etc.Goran Bregović got recognized in Eastern Europe with Bijelo Dugme (The White Button) rock band, whereas tunes for a variety of movies won him a world renown.Bregović has been involved in composing music for films as of the 1970’s. The best pieces were accomplished in cooperation with filmmaker Emir Kusturica. Tunes for movies like Time of the Gypsies, Arizona Dream, and Underground (the latter one winning the prize in the Cannes Film Festival in 1995) became worldwide famous indeed. Another movie featuring Bregović’s music awarded by the Cannes Festival is La Reine Margot by French director Patrice Chéreau. The movie tunes by Bregović feature a great deal of the Balkan and Gypsy elements.The famous singers he recorded albums with include Sezen Aksu, Krzysztof Krawczyk, and George Dalaras, just to mention a few.Unique ability of Goran Bregović to sense and grasp peculiarities of various musical cultures leads to a nice blend of folk tunes with pieces of electronic music.With geography of performances spreading all over the globe, the artist boasts of over 3000 solo shows in recent 20 years.
